Global Divorces, What's that?

Divorces in theDominican Republic, Haiti or Mexico can be obtained in aslittle as 1-Days. Under the divorce law in some jurisdictions, itis legal to get a divorce without meeting lengthy residency requirements. Residency in these countries is a one or two year process and CAN NOT BEDONE IN 1-DAY! When applying fora divorce, the presiding judge waives part or all the residencerequirement for a simple divorce. Can you imagine if justappearing in a country for 1-Day could make you a resident ofthat country?????? In most cases the judge can and does waive theappearance.

Are Global Divorces Legal ?

Among the states that have expressly recognized this principleare New York(Rosenstiel v. Rosenstiel, 16 N.Y.2d 64, 209 N.E.2d709, 262 N.Y.S.2d 86[1965]),Connecticut (Yoder v. Yoder, 31Conn.Supp. 345, 330 A.2d 825[1974])Wood v. Wood 16 N.Y. 2nd. 64(65). Even the Internal Revenue Service recognizes Globaldivorces.Estate of Felt v. Comm'r, 54 T.C.M. (CCH) 528 (1987).When entered into ingood faith and not for a sham tax-avoidancepurpose, the Internal RevenueService recognizes foreign divorces.Estate of Felt v. Comm'r, 54 T.C.M.(CCH) 528 (1987).

Do we both have to travel to obtain a GlobalDivorce?

No The divorcing parties sign a Power of Attorney. This allowsour lawyers to legally act on your behalfas it regards to divorceand eliminates your need to travel.

What if my spouse does not agree?

A Global Divorce can still be granted. The Dominican Republic,Mexican and Haitian Divorce Court issues a Notification to beposted. If there is no response by your spouse in a timelymanner, then your divorce is granted by default. No one can makeyou stay married to them!
